High Speed Rail

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Attached is a position paper on high speed rail formulated by the National Legislative Office and the National Association of State Legislative Board Chairmen’s task force on high speed rail. First and foremost, I would like to thank President Rodzwicz for his suggestion to put together a task force.

Second, I would like to thank the members of the Task Force, Timothy L. Smith, Chairman; Ken Kertesz, Secretary Treasurer; William Verdeyen, 1st V-Chairman; Terry Todd, 2nd V-Chairman; Tim Hanely, Region 1 Chairman; David Lavery, Region 2 Chairman; C. Edward Way, Region 3 Chairman; Mike Muscha, Region 4 Chairman; and Jeff Kurtz, Iowa State Legislative Board Chairman. I think they did a great job and worked very hard on getting this project completed. We spent a lot of time debating the issue and I feel the paper is comprehensive.

We wanted to get out in front of this emerging, popular issue and hope the ideas expressed in this paper will help us to protect and grow our membership.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Frats,

Total Safety Culture

This is a very good article sent by our good friend and brother, Joe Gish who works on the UP out of Boone IA. It is something we have to guard against when we collaborate with the carriers on safety. They get us into the process, woo us with trinkets and cheap meals that a 1% raise would take care of 10 times over, pay some of us very good money to make the whole thing seem legitimate and then start blaming us for everything.

Your New Website

Welcome to the new website for the BLET`s Iowa State Legislative Board. Come here often to review the content and keep up on the most current news concerning the BLET.

You will notice 3 headings under the logo. The first, IA Admin. Rules is the van law that governs road vans operating in the state of Iowa. The second, Federal Regulations, is a link provided to us by our good friend and brother, Mark Sims, from Division 6. It is all 964 pages of the regs that apply to us. The third is the contact information for all of the Executive Committee officers.
